Porcelain Pillar Candleholders with Grapevine/Celadon Glaze
Sold singly. The base of these candleholders is fashioned after the historical Meiping shape. A meiping is an historical Chinese pottery form, built for the palace. I have been making this form since the beginning of my career, so 31 years! I threw these candleholders in 3 pieces and joined them when the clay was still wet clay, that is when I carved the pattern in to the surface. The glazes are a soft gloss celadon over the carving, with dark contrast in the carving lines and my signature metallic glaze. 10" tall x 5" diameter. Signed "Sullivan, Canada" on the bottom.
