Porcelain Pottery Vase with Black and Gold Butterflies

NEW PATTERN. A limited edition series made for Mother's Day. The butterfly is a symbol for Mother in Asian cultures.

This is an elegant classic shape decorated with multicoloured and 22 karat gold butterlies. Heavy bottom to support blooms. I made this out of a white porcelain clay body. I threw it on the potter's wheel in 2 pieces, and joined the pieces when they were still wet clay giving you the elevated silhouette. I basically finished this piece with a clear glaze over the entire white surface, fired twice, then applied overglaze gold decals of butterflies as well as multicoloured painterly decals in purples/pinks and browns of butterflies that are fired in to the surface of the clear glaze in a third kiln firing.

The patterns are sealed permanently into the clay by the glazing process. A clear glaze is over the entire piece. Please appreciate the slight variations and imperfections that are the signs of hand made pottery. This pot is approximately 7.25" tall x 4" wide(exterior measurement). Signed "Sullivan, Canada" on the bottom.
